Graham Hand has been Chief Executive
of the British Consultants and Construction Bureau since May 2004. He joined
the Diplomatic Service in 1980 after 10 years as a regular Army officer. During
this period he took an honours degree in engineering and law at Cambridge
University. His diplomatic postings at home included two years in the Foreign
Office Press Office, a year working on policy issues in the then ODA and taking
charge of the newly formed FCO Human Rights Policy Department, from 1992-94.
His diplomatic postings abroad included Senegal, Nigeria, Finland
and Tajikistan. From 1998 to 2001 he was British Ambassador to
Bosnia and Herzegovina, and from 2002 to 2004 he was British Ambassador
to Algeria, where his primary task was to rebuild the British presence
after a 10-year terrorist insurgency, including re-introducing
British companies to this market. Graham is married with two children
and enjoys cooking, singing, offshore sailing, skiing and shooting.
